Netflix is by far the most prolific of all the streaming services, offering everything from beloved classics like Friends to acclaimed original series like The Crown. One of the most extensive streaming services in the world, Netflix has a sizable subscriber base of more than 200 million users.
Like its rivals, Netflix provides a range of subscription tiers with various costs and features. Even today, Netflix in the US lets customers place postal orders for DVDs and Blu-ray discs. It would surprise me if you aren’t a Netflix subscriber already.
Nevertheless, only a small number of people are still considering signing up right away, while many more are looking to switch subscription plans. Your ability to stream Netflix simultaneously on a certain number of devices and in High Definition (HD), Full High Definition (FHD), or Ultra High Definition (UHD) depends on your chosen Netflix plan.

The advertisements themselves can run for 30 to 75 seconds, but they aren’t as intrusive as some other ad-supported streaming services. The Office, The Good Place, Arrested Development, and Skyfall are just some notable third-party shows and movies that are absent from this Netflix tier; the exact titles depend on your location.
Since there are no simultaneous streams or downloads available and the streaming quality is HD (720p), we only advise using this tier for single users.
You still have access to the entire collection of TV shows and movies even with Netflix Basic, so there is no content that you are missing out on. The main limitations are the number of concurrent streams and the resolutions you can stream in.
High definition (HD), or 720p, streaming is now available through Netflix Basic. Any device, including your laptop, phone, and TV, can use this. This will be fine for you if you’re watching Netflix on an old TV that can’t handle higher definitions.
Even though Netflix allows you to create up to five profiles across all plans, the Basic version only allows one stream at a time, meaning no simultaneous streaming. As a result, if you want Basic, you’ll have to be content with it being limited to one device in your home or be very good at juggling your viewing habits with family or friends.
You can also only download content on one phone or tablet at a time, so keep that in mind if you like to stream on the go.
The all-purpose standard account is the most widely used Netflix plan. Two simultaneous streams, two devices that can be registered for downloads, and a nice boost in your resolution are all improvements over the Basic plan.
You can stream content in 1080p on Netflix Standard. Your picture quality will be passable no matter what streaming device you use because this is the average across the majority of devices currently on the market.
This account is ideal for multiple family members who enjoy tuning in from various rooms of the house or for friends who enjoy Netflix at the same time as you because it offers two simultaneous streams.
Again, though, this plan does not give you the maximum number of screens that you are permitted. Think about who you’ll be sharing your plan with and how much money you want to spend each month at the most.
Consider Netflix Premium if cost isn’t an issue for you or if you share your account with a lot of people. Ultra High Definition (UHD), or 4K streaming, is available on Netflix’s Premium tier if you want to make the most of your 4K television or laptop.
Be aware that not every program and movie on the platform is available in 4K. If sharing is your primary objective, Netflix Premium is by far the easiest account to use as it comes with four simultaneous streams and four devices to store downloads.
Large groups and large families will also be happy to take advantage of this. Naturally, keep in mind that you’ll need a fast broadband connection if all of these streams are being watched in one home (and they’re all in 4K) to prevent any buffering issues.
Now the main question you would be thinking is which Netflix Plan should I get? The answer is dependent on you and what you’re looking for. You can save money by choosing Basic with Ads or Basic if you only intend to stream the occasional thing and use a single device.
Choose Premium if you’re on the other end of the spectrum, want the best picture quality, intend to stream frequently, and want to share your account with friends. Alternately, stick with Standard to get the best of both worlds in terms of cost and benefits.
There is no point in 4K streaming if you don’t have a 4K device, so think carefully about who you want to split the account with, the impact this will have on cost, and the types of devices that you can watch your content on. Also, keep in mind that you can switch between accounts until you find the one that works best.
